From task preparation to long-term health, connect the work to the protection people need.

Occupational safety begins with understanding the work: what people are trying to do, how they could encounter harm, and what protection needs to work under actual conditions.

This school is for people who perform work, prepare it, supervise it or help improve its safety and health conditions. You can begin as a worker, crew lead, supervisor or developing safety practitioner. Choose the learning that fits your question and experience.

Conditions of work

Understand what helps or constrains the task.

Space, equipment, information, staffing, time and neighboring activities shape the work. A familiar task can become different when one of those conditions changes.

Hazards and exposure

Explain how people could encounter harm.

Connect a source of harm to the people, place and circumstances of exposure. Instead of only naming a hazard, ask how it could affect the people performing or supporting the work.

Task planning

Prepare with the people doing the work.

Explore Job Hazard Analysis, Job Safety Analysis and Activity Hazard Analysis. Learn to connect task steps, exposures and controls while respecting the review requirements of the workplace.

Controls in practice

Ask whether protection works.

A control needs to address the exposure and work under actual conditions. Explore how people confirm its readiness and study its effectiveness.

Occupational health

Look beyond immediate injury.

Noise, dust, heat, chemical exposure and physical demands belong in the conversation. Some concerns require information and specialist assessment that a quick visual look cannot provide.

Incident learning

Use experience to improve conditions.

Study events and everyday work to understand what could be improved. Ask what shaped the situation and how the learning can strengthen protection.
