Abstract:
This article examines the application of Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools in preventing Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIFs). Originally developed for high-risk sectors such as nuclear power and aviation, HPI tools have proven adaptable across various industries to manage human error and enhance operational safety. Tools such as Task Previews, Self-Checking, and Post-Job Reviews are highlighted, alongside the critical role of leadership in fostering a culture of continuous learning and open communication. A case study detailing HPI implementation in a Nordic nuclear power plant illustrates the practical effectiveness of these strategies in boosting safety performance.
